Here Are the Basics
Teaching English overseas can be very rewarding in many aspects. One of the greatest advantages, though, is the travel opportunities it affords you. This is because the teaching hours are minimal, and the vacation time allotted is considerably abundant.
The school year consists of 2 semesters which are 16 weeks long. The contract requires each teacher to complete 18 teaching hours per week. Each term is separated by a 10 week holiday: winter holiday in January and February; summer holiday in July and August. |

Bachelor's degree - ¥8,000 ($1,163*) per month
Master's degree - ¥9,000 ($1,309*) per month Doctorate degree - ¥11,000 ($1,600*) per month In addition to the monthly salary, each teacher will receive 2 travel bonuses per year (¥8,000 for international travel, and ¥2,200 for domestic travel). Half of each bonus will be paid at the end of each semester. For those teachers who sign a new conract for the following year, a signing bonus equivalent to ¥1,000 per year of service will be paid. This bonus will also be paid in two parts: half at the end of each semester. |
